To help you enjoy the season even more, here are a few quick tips to make your home merry and bright:

Festive Touches: Spruce up your home with a few seasonal decorations—nothing says Christmas like the glow of fairy lights, a twinkling tree, and some cozy blankets.

Stay Warm: Remember to check your heating system before the cold really sets in, and keep your energy bills in mind as you decorate.

Holiday Safety: If you’re heading out of town for the holidays, consider having a trusted neighbor collect mail or leave a light on for security.

🎄 Classic Christmas Gingerbread Cookies 🍪

Ingredients For the Cookies:

350g plain flour

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

2 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp ground cinnamon

125g unsalted butter (cold, cubed)

175g light brown sugar

1 egg

4 tbsp golden syrup

For Decorating:

Icing sugar

A few drops of water or lemon juice

Food colouring (optional)

Sprinkles, edible pearls, or chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan) / 350°F / Gas Mark 4.

In a bowl, mix the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger, and cinnamon.

Rub the butter into the mixture using your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.

Stir in the brown sugar.

Beat the egg and golden syrup together, then add to the bowl.

Mix until the dough comes together—knead lightly if needed.

Wrap the dough in cling film and chill for 15–20 minutes.

2. Bake the Cookies

Roll out the dough to about ½ cm thick on a floured surface.

Use festive cutters (stars, trees, gingerbread men) to cut shapes.

Place onto a baking tray lined with parchment.

Bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.

Let them cool completely before decorating—they firm up as they cool.

3. Decorate!

Mix icing sugar with a little water to form a smooth icing.

Add food colouring if you like.

Pipe or drizzle designs onto the cookies and add sprinkles.
